Hello everyone! Here’s a blog to show what a typical day in Haiti looks like for me, through pictures.  Throughout the day I took a photo at every hour starting at 7 am until 9pm that night. I hope you enjoy!

7 AM:
The first thing I try to do in the morning is spend some quiet time with God through a time of reading the bible and prayer.

8 AM:
At 8 am I sit down to breakfast with my team.  Often it consists of bananas, bread and boiled eggs.  Sometimes we switch it up with oatmeal, frozen mangos or scrambled eggs.  As a team we go over the schedule for the day and anything else that needs to be discussed.

9 AM:
By 9 am we have been dropped off at the school in Jubilee.  Jubilee is considered the poorer area next to Gonaives.  Our team splits off to various classes, using our skills as best as we can.

10 AM:
At the school I help out Reed, an American missionary who teaches the art class at the school in Jubilee.  By 10 am, we are in the middle of her first class of the day.  Today we created objects  with home made playdo.  During the day I often help out with three of her four classes.

11 AM:
In between classes I like to wander the school to see what everyone else is doing, as well as play with any kids at recess.  Whenever the kids see a camera, they get very excited.

12 PM:
In the dining hall, all the students and teachers can eat a wonderful nutritious plate of rice and beans with lots of added vitamins and goodness.  I will often get my own plate and sit with my team or some of the students to eat lunch.

1 PM:
A little after 1pm the art class for the 6th graders has finished and they are hanging out before their next class.

2 PM:
Around 2pm, it is time to cram ourselves into the truck and head home for a few hours.  Pictured L to R: Grace, Kendra, our Team Leader Naomi and I.

3 PM:
At 3pm my team tries to meet together to have team time.  Team time is just designated time for us to spend time together without anything else going on.  Sometimes it can look like a bible study together, a game, get-to-know-you questions, feedback and times of praying for each other.  Pictured L to R: Victoria, Kendra, Grace, Squad Leader Quinn, our Team Leader Naomi.  I am in the front.

4 PM:
During this hour, it is a time of resting and relaxing.  I find a quiet place, grab my book and sit to enjoy a good story.

5 PM:
We arrive at Mommy Jan’s Orphanage to spend a few hours with her Hopesters.  My team and I always loved spending time with the kids.  As soon as we arrive, I am whisked upstairs so the girls can start playing with my very “long, beautiful hair”.

6 PM:
It is Bible time! Tonight we had a local missionary come and speak about “How much God loves and cares about us”.

7 PM:
Around 7 pm, we sit down to dinner with the kids. Tonight we had cornflakes and condensed milk! My favorite meal at the orphanage!

8PM:
By 8pm everyone has finished dinner and it is time to pick out a movie to watch.  Giggles and laughter ensue as we watch anything from “Looney Tunes” to the movie “Hook”.

9 PM:
It is finally time to say goodbye to the Hopesters, hop in the truck and James takes us home. Once home, we pray together as a team and head straight to bed to get plenty of rest for another full day tomorrow.

Thank you so much for reading and following my journey! Thank also for your prayers and support!

With Love, Jewel
